3 Haitian Holiday Drinks
I love being Haitian and the food and drinks that we have. So I made a list of 3 Haitian holiday drinks you should try. I’ve had some blogs of recipes and in them I alway talk about how my food will always have a Haitian influence. But I never had a blog post that has Haitian food or drinks. I wanted to change that because I love my culture so much. I’m starting it off with drinks because it is easier. I hope you enjoy these 3 Haitian holiday drinks.
3 Haitian Holiday Drinks
Ginger Tea
When I was growing up we would always have ginger tea around the winter time but now I swear I drink it at least once a month. It’s my favorite tea. Sometimes I get the ginger and tea from the packets but it’s never the same. So, I like to make it myself. It’s way better made from scratch.
Ingredients:
Ginger
Water
Sugar
Cinnamon sticks
Directions:
Peel the skin off of the ginger. Cut it up and add to the blender with water. Pour into a small pot with more water(you don’t want it to be too spicy. Add cinnamon sticks and boil until the ginger is soft and the tea is a golden color. Strain tea into another container. Add sugar to make it sweet.
Haitian Hot Chocolate
Haitian hot chocolate was one of my favorites until I became lactose intolerant. I didn’t drink it in years until recently when my mom made it. It was a risk but it was worth it. Haitian hot chocolate is made with real cocoa. The flavor is so rich. It’s the most delicious thing I’ve tasted.
Ingredients:
Choko Pam(cocoa)
Can milk
Cinnamon sticks
Sugar
Directions:
So this is a drink that I haven’t made before. My mom usually makes it but I do watch her. She adds the can milk to the pot and the Choka Pam since this is real cocoa you don’t need to add much to it. You will need a lot of sugar to make it sweet. If you want you can add a cinnamon stick to it. This drink is not like powdered hot chocolate. The texture is different and the taste is richer
Cremas
So I had to leave the best for last. Cremas is the holiday drink for Haitians. It’s another drink that I’ve haven’t had recently because it has milk. However, I’m looking into some vegan version of this drink.
Ingredients:
Rum(Barbouncourt Rhum)
Coconut milk/cream
Cinnamon
Condensed milk
Lime zest.
Directions:
My dad usually makes cremas and when he does it he uses an actual coconut and makes coconut milk but this is the easy version. Add coconut milk or cream to a large container. Add powdered cinnamon. You don’t need sugar with this recipe since you add the condensed milk. Add as little or as much rum you want to it. Finally, add some lemon zest, its and important ingredient to cremas.
I hope you enjoyed this list of 3 Haitian holiday drinks. Tell me in the comments below… What is your favorite holiday drink?
